summer road-trip to portland

Being from the West Coast, we take a lot of things for granted and one of them is the ability to pack your things and head for the open road (check out our blog post on top 10 road-trip songs). As children, some of our most memorable trips were road trips and Portland was a place we had not been to for a long while!

A friend of mine describe Portland as a city with all of the cool and best parts of Vancouver in one place. The people were friendly, the food was tasty and the shopping was greaaaaaat! 

One of our cousins that we traveled with currently studies at the Art Institute in Seattle so we stopped over for lunch on our way back, and I have to say that Seattle was looking awfully nicer than I remember it being on most days. It was sunny, the mountains were clearly visible in the distant and the water very blue.

With fall approaching, I find myself doing two things: trying to hang on to my summer wardrobe (can't believe summer is almost over) and sneaking in fall items or colours into my outfits.  This crochet looking rusty orange top is a perfect example of this.  It's nice and breezy to throw on during summer evenings and it's also a colour that reminds me of fall.

picnic at spanish banks

Summer hasn't officially been celebrated as a season for us sisters until we have a proper picnic with friends or family...or even both!

There are many places to picnic in Vancouver, but Spanish Banks is the perfect place for a picnic because there aren't very many people also because it has a great view of downtown and the sail boats at Jericho Beach.

It was nice walking on the ocean floor barefoot due to the low-tide, especially since we had the perfect summer soundtrack playing all thanks to a man with his acoustic guitar.

It was a very fun day with a game of ultimate, badminton, ring-toss and beach volleyball (we all get seriously competitive) but we had more than enough food with a portable BBQ for burgers, a picnic table full of snacks and coolers full of chilled drinks!

a day at granville island

Granville island is one of my favourite spots in Vancouver. I love going to the public market, the Greek and Mexican food there is amazing. It also has some of the best chocolate I have ever eaten. I always enjoy feeding the geese by the pond!

I really like the outfit I am wearing. It's very comfortable, the neon yellow shirt with the comfy sweater was perfect for the weather. The bow necklace completed the outfit!

a night out at the night market

One of the best things about summer in Vancouver (besides actually getting to enjoy the beach) is the night market. It's like being transported to a different world without paying for a plane ticket. Add amazing weather, good food and cheap deals its the perfect way to spend another beautiful summer day.

I bought these adorable hello-kitty glasses from the night market itself, which suited the occasion and outfit so well! I love this outfit because its breathable, summer-y, and light. I think that collared crop-tops were the best things invented because of the amazing layering possibilities!

For the night market I opted for my "go-to" outfit; that is a preset outfit worn whenever you don't want to think about assembling an outfit together and is weather appropriate. Do you have preset outfits that you always go back to?

vegetarian tacos

so who doesn't love tacos? they are quick and easy to prepare, and delicious to eat! and you can't just have one! here is a super easy recipe for vegetarian tacos.  I use 1 pkg of Yves veggie cuisine mexican ground beef as a substitute for ground beef.  I love Yves veggie cuisine food products, from their burger patties to veggie hot dogs, not only do they taste good, but they are really healthy as well.  One of my favourite toppings with these tacos is guacamole, you can find the quick and easy recipe for guacamole here.

Toppings: guacamole, sour cream, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, green onions, salsa

Vegetarian Tacos
serves 4-6 ppl

Ingredients:

old el paso taco shells or any taco shells you prefer
1 pkg Yves veggie cuisine mexican vegetarian ground beef
2 tbs water
2 tbs salsa
sriracha (or any hot sauce you prefer, such as tabasco)  to taste 

Toppings:
1/2 onion diced or 5-6 green onions chopped
guacamole
sour cream
1 tomato diced
salsa
shredded cheese

Instructions:

1. In a  pan, mix together the Yves mexican ground beef, 2 tbs water, 2 tbs salsa and add  sriracha hot sauce to taste, cook on medium-high heat for about 5 mins or when you feel the veggie ground beef has absorbed most of the liquid (you don't want the mixture to get too dry either)
2. prepare taco shells according to instructions on the box
3.  Add veggie ground beef preparation into taco shell and add all your favourite toppings!

 Now that summer is coming to an end it means it's almost time to get back to school. Although I am not ready to say bye to summer, which has been filled with Dawson's Creek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer re-runs, when I wear these paul smith glasses they get me back into school mode. The comfy flowy shirt paired with these indigo jeans is perfect for a day at school.

I sometimes like the "Preppy" look. So here I opted for a more preppy casual feel. This striped shirt is super comfortable, and having it half tucked-in and half out paired with the jean shorts and sneakers really completed the look. I also have some pearls, but they are not your typical pearl studs. These have an edge to them because they have a gold spike at the back. I am also wearing my beloved all black Swarovski watch which has jet hematite stones in it. I got this watch as a gift and I love it! So this look is preppy in a casual way. This look is perfect for a nice summer day when it's not too hot, or even if you're going sailing!
